FAQs about Calibra Food for Small-Breed Dogs

What makes small-breed dog food different?

Calibra small-breed recipes are designed with smaller kibble sizes for easier chewing and digestion, as well as containing higher calories to match your small dog’s faster metabolism.

Why do small dogs need more calories?

Smaller dog breeds burn energy quicker than larger breeds. On average they require around 88 calories per kg of body weight each day, compared to about 50 calories per kg for larger breeds.

Can I feed my small dog regular adult food?

Technically yes, regular adult food won’t harm small dogs, however the kibble size and nutrient density aren’t as optimised for small dog breeds.

How do I transition my small dog to Calibra food?

Transition to new food slowly as to not cause digestive upset or other issues. Start by mixing the new small dog food with the old food over 5-7 days (25%, 50%, 75%, then 100%). Bear in mind that for sensitive dogs to take it slower and keep an eye out for any cues of discomfort – you know your dog best.

Are there products tailored for small-breed life stages?

Yes, at Calibra, you’ll find options like, junior, adult, and senior small breed formulas created to meet each life stage’s individual nutritional needs.

Are there special Calibra diets for older small-breed dogs?

Yes, we have ranges such as our Calibra Life Senior Small Breed Lamb, which is lower in fat to support healthy weight, and contains joint nutrients for mobility.
